Summary/Abstract: Just like any other activity that we undertake, the process of learning a foreign language involves a wide spectrum of emotions, ranging from those seen as negative, such as anxiety, boredom or shame, to those perceived as positive, such as enjoyment, love or curiosity. The present article offers a brief overview of empirical studies focusing on both sets of emotions, and makes the point that both of them should be taken into account in the language classroom. It also makes the point that extreme care should be taken when trying to intervene in the emotions manifested by learners and that there exists a close link between emotions experienced by learners and their teachers.
