Summary/Abstract: In the vast majority of contexts, the use of new technologies in the process of foreign language learning and teaching takes the form of blended learning, where part of instruction occurs face-to-face in the classroom and part is conducted with the help of computer-assisted and online resources. One of the ways in which blended learning can be implemented is the application of virtual worlds, such as “Second Life”. The article reports the results of a questionnaire study which aimed to determine the benefits and drawbacks of such environments in the eyes of the students of English philology, future teachers of English, also with respect to their utility for effective foreign language instruction.
