Summary/Abstract: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The main goal of the article was to evaluate the possibility for accomplishment of the Europe 2020 Strategy goals in the area of education. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The analysis of current fulfillment level of the Europe 2020 Strategy goals was performed by comparison and graphical display of empirical data. The prognosis of the possibility of achieving these goals in 2020 was prepared using statistical methods (trend estimation and data extrapolation using trend equations). THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: Based on the characterization of the Europe 2020 Strategy and its two goals in the area of education, values of the two monitor indicators were used in the analysis and prognosis. The two indicators were: early leavers from education and training and tertiary educational attainment. RESEARCH RESULTS: The evaluation of current fulfillment level of Europe 2020 Strategy, performed in the article, has shown a general improvement of the situation in the EU 28 between year 2008 and 2018, regarding both indicators. Only in case of 5 member states the situation was worse in 2018 than in 2008 (absolute increase / decrease of values, depending on the indicator’s character). The prognosis of reaching Strategy goals in the year 2020 led to similar conclusion. According to it, the majority (16/28) of member states should reach both the targets, and only five of them won’t be able to reach any of them. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The outcomes of evaluation did not indicate the existence of direct relation between a level of economic development and state of the education system in given country, at least with reference to indicators used. This issue naturally requires further research.
