Summary/Abstract: Neophyte of Rila (Neofit Rilski) (1793–1881), also called “the patriarch of Bulgarian pedagogues”, is one of the founders and the first teacher in the first Bulgarian secular school, established in Gabrovo in 1835. As a teacher, he introduced and promoted a modern teaching methodology known as the Bell-Lancaster method. Neophyte of Rila is the author of the first grammar book of modern Bulgarian language – Bolgarska gramatika, published in Kragujevac (Serbia) in 1835 and he also published the mutual learning tables. These and a few more of his works are included in the Book Kaleidoscope Series of the “St. St. Cyril and Methoudius” National Library for the month of January 2021.
