Summary/Abstract: The Library of the Divine Word Missionaries Seminary in Pieniężno was established in 1948, shortly after the foundation of the Missionary Seminary in the post-German Lower Seminary of the Society of the Divine Word. Due to the post-war situation, the development of this library was initially difficult. To a large extent, the book collection consisted of books acquired from other SVD convents (mainly from Nysa, Bytom, Rybnik, Chludowo and Bruczków). The exchange of doublets with other libraries was another source of book acquisition. Currently, the seminary library has a large collection of books not only in the field of philosophy, theology and related studies, but – as future missionaries are educated here – the library also specializes in such areas as: missiology, religious studies, ethnology, linguistics, cultural anthropology, cultural studies. The entire computerized book collection (excluding textbooks, old prints and reference collections) currently comprises 102 056 volumes. Furthermore, the library holds a collection of 280 old prints. Conservation works on them, initiated in 2015, have been completed recently.
