Summary/Abstract: Dechristianization is a contemporary phenomenon which is a challenge for homilets and preachers in order they might undertake the effective countermeasures against it. That is why rechristianization is necessary. Since homily is an important remedy against going away from the faith, a constant improvement of its quality is necessary – which is stressed by pope Benedict XVI (SC 46, VD 59). Christocentrism and mystagogy – the spiritual union of hearers with Christ – is important in homily preaching; there is also a need to teach them celebration of Sunday and feasts and to stimulate to taking care of faith and religious knowledge. Homily must also contain an evangelizing dimension - and when programming it – it is necessary to stress the „big issues of Christian faith” (SC 46) - however without an excessive thematic fragmentation. It is also necessary to educate the hearers to be apostles of faith protecting their neighbours against dechristianization. If sometimes during a year and on occasion of celebration of the sacraments or funeral some dechristianized people or atheists come to the church – we are obliged to evangelize them by preaching the homily of the highest value. Finally it is worth noting that the whole pastoral ministry should do everything to keep the faithful in standing firmly by Christ and His Church.
