Summary/Abstract: Grammar teaching is an important component of systematic mother tongue education starting with school age. It is stated in the researches that grammar teaching, which has some obligations such as enabling the student to notice the areas of language use by revealing the subconscious linguistic structures for the effective use of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, to comprehend the properties related to the functioning of language and to ensure the realization of effective communication, is not at the desired level. It is expressed that an adequate explanation about why they need to acquire knowledge on grammar is not made to students, and in fact, this is the underlying cause of problems ranging from teacher competency to the lack of materials and the quality of the methods and techniques used. In this sense, the aim of the study is to determine the secondary school students’ perception towards the domain of grammar learning. In accordance with this aim, the study was designed in phenomenographic pattern as one of the qualitative research methods. Structured drawing form and semi-structured interview form were used as data collection tool. For the analysis of the research data, content analysis was used. As a result of the findings obtained, it can be said that the secondary school students’ levels of awareness about grammar learning are high, but classroom practices lead students to remain distant from this learning domain.
