Between Idiom and Ideology. The Byronic Elements in Dimitrija Demeter

Summary/Abstract: The study investigates the relationship of Dimitrija Demeter's poem "Grobniko­ po­lje" to the Byronic poem, and to Byron's "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage" in particular, in terms of intertextual reference. The semantic extent and the specific functions of the "borrowed" Byronic elements (generic traits, themes, motifs) as well as their characteristic transformations within Demeter's text are examined. The purpose of the examination is to determine more accurately both the nature and the particular literary and cultural conditions of this instance of intertextual relationship.
