Summary/Abstract: Our purpose in the present article is to exemplify SPEAKER-subjective sentences occurring in narrative fiction. The need for a differentiation between CHARACTER-subjective and objective sentences has been the topic of previous research, which is continued here by the analysis of SPEAKER-subjective sentences. The two categories (i.e. subjective and objective sentences) were developed in the non-communicative school of thought, which postulates that a narrator or speaker is not necessarily at the origin of all textual instances. Our approach starts from the idea that perspectives in fiction are either objective – they constitute the world of fiction, or subjective – they are part of a character’s personal world representation. Here we mainly focus on first-person sentences in the Present Tense Simple for illustrating SPEAKER-subjective sentences, a continuation of our previous work.
