Summary/Abstract: The present article is devoted to the work of the Belarusian playwright Franciszek Alachnowicz. In his work “Shadows” traces of poetic devices can be found. First of all, the author of the article pays attention to the psychology of the figure, the inner life of the heroes, a conflict between consciousness and soul, as the author creates an atmosphere of tension and horror. These features of his artistic style allow him to be counted among the representatives of the „new drama” – an interesting artistic phenomenon in European drama at the turn of 19th and 20th centuries.
