Summary/Abstract: Platonism and Christianity: A Mere Antagonism or a Profound Common Ground?In his article “Die andere Theologie”, 1971, H. Dörrie argued that Platonism, in all respects different from Christianity, could not have had influence on Christianity in any way and that, indeed, it had not affected on it since no Platonic contribution is detectable in the official records of the Church. Against these theories, the author first establishes the perspectives which are shared by Platonism and Christianity: the visible things are not the ultimate reality, they refer to the absolute reality that is infinitely beyond, and this dependence is the rule of our conduct. Platonism has contributed to the expression of Christian faith. The testimony for this could be found from Justin Martyr to Augustine and in the formulation of the dogma of Nicaea to Chalcedon.
