TWO PREFACES ON THE WORK “KËNGË E BRITHMA NGA QYTETI I DJEGUR” (SONGS AND CRIES FROM THE BURNT TOWN) THAT AROUSE SCIENTIFIC INTEREST

Summary/Abstract: The object of our analysis will be the work of Mitrush Kuteli “Këngë e brithma nga qyteti i djegur” (Songs and cries from the burnt town) published in 1944, with folklore materials of folk songs collected in Pogradec. The songs of the work in question are provided with proper biographical notes of the subjects from whom the songs were recorded. This work is considered the first folklore work with scientific criteria. It will be emphasized that the work has been forgotten not because of the lack of values, but because of the communist political ideology in Albania. There will be a study approach for the two prefaces of the work in question, which arouse scientific interest. The first preface is entitled “Këngët i sjell era” (Songs are brought by the wind), which, gives the necessary explanations of how Kuteli collected the songs in Pogradec. In the second preface “Kush m`i dha këngët” (Who gave me the songs), the author tells us about the subjects, where the right scientific attitude stands out towards the folklore and of those who create it and bear it.
