The Junkhouse or the Disease of Anti-Semitism

Summary/Abstract: The present study attempts to offer an in-depth analysis of Carol Ardeleanu’s drama Casa vechiturilor (The Junkhouse). The author brings to attention Jewish issues and the disease of anti-Semitism. Carol Ardeleanu’s source of inspiration in this respect seems to be Manasse, the powerful yet uncomfortable drama written by Ronetti-Roman. Ardeleanu attempts to present generation gaps, Jewish beliefs, habits and traditions, the Jewish art of negotiation and extortionate practices, etc. in a drama about types of people (illustrated by characters such as Nathan and Isidor) who existed in reality and will always exist.
