Summary/Abstract: In the campaign of 1916-1919, a number of 2151 soldiers from Constanţa lost their lives, another 509 being declared disabled soldiers. Romanian leaders, headed by King Ferdinand, have promised that they will forever enjoy the gratitude of their descendants. This promise was not respected, as evidenced by the hundreds of memoirs, petitions and complaints found in the archives of Constanţa, whereby disabled soldiers, orphans and war widows asked the authorities to grant the due legal rights.
