Summary/Abstract: The article sets out to explore the way the isolationist strategic subculture in the US left its mark on the Trump doctrine. The first section of the article delves into the importance of exploring a given state’s strategic subcultures in order to grasp the strategic solutions it has at its disposal in times of crisis. The article discusses in this section how a strategic subculture gains preeminence over the other ones in the aftermath of a constant interaction among them. Notwithstanding the fact that the isolationist strategic subculture had the upper hand on the Trump administration’s foreign policy, the article argues that other strategic subcultures, such as the one specific to the American bureaucracy, continued to produce effects.
