Summary/Abstract: The article seeks to unravel the certainties and uncertainties regarding Romania’s national role before and after it has joined the Euro-Atlantic community. To this end, the article brings under scrutiny two types of strategic narratives, namely constitutive and identity ones. Whereas the first one refers to how the Romanian political elite has perceived the regional threats, the second one deals with Romania’s specific role within NATO and the EU. The strategic narratives explored in this article stem from some of the books written by top Romanian statesmen, that is, Presidents of the Republic, Prime-Ministers, Ministers of Foreign Affairs, and National Security Counsellors.
