Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to reconstruct the internal form of idiomatic expressions a golden pig in the Czech language and a sun bunny in the East Slavic languages. The cultural and mythological basis of these expressions is revealed by comparing the archaic solar symbolism of animalistic components in the context of traditional folk beliefs. It is shown that the interlingual differences in motivational images of the idioms developed as the result of not genetic, but typological parallels closely related to the peculiarities of the sacred meanings of the calendar (Christmas) and everyday life.
