Summary/Abstract: The article presents an Islamic perspective on the persons with Disabilities and in Disadvantaged position (physical, economic and social) in the light of the primary sources of Islamic teachings. First of all, it addresses several general concepts which stem from qur’anic themes: normality of difference, responsibility and care, the morally irrelevant nature of physical traits, emphasis on promoting health and normality of disability, all of which testify to a positive Islamic stance towards persons with Disabilities and those who are in disadvantaged positions. After that overview, the article explains the related terminologies for persons with Disabilities and in Disadvantaged position. The final part describes the discussion about the historical application of an Islamic perspective on persons with Disabilities/in Disadvantaged positions by providing examples which show humane and tolerant treatment of persons with special needs in Islamic societies.
