Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the reception of the Austrian writer, essayist, columnist, journalist, chronicler, editor, and critic Karl-Markus Gauß in Slovenia. Gauß has received several recognitions of his work, including the European Charles Veillon Essay Prize (Prix Européen de l’Essai Charles Veillon) in 1997, the Austrian Book Trade Honorary Award for Tolerance in Thought and Action (Ehrenpreis des österreichischen Buchhandels für Toleranz in Denken und Handeln) in 2001, and the Austrian Art Prize for Literature (Österreichischer Kunstpreis für Literatur) in 2013, as well as two Slovenian awards: the Portorož International Award Writers Meeting at the Border (Srečanje pisateljev na meji) in 1989, and in 2005 the Vilenica award for outstanding achievement in literature at the twentieth Vilenica International Literary Festival, which brings together authors from Central Europe. This article presents Slovenian translations of Gauß’s works, their reception among critics and readers, and Gauß’s profile in Slovenian culture and literature.
