Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses late Bronze Age history of Lesbos when it was part of the Hittite world, the arrival of the Greeks on Lesbos in the 8th c. BC, and the archaeological and historical remains of the Archaic period, especially the characteristic Aeolic grey wares made and exported, and events linking Lesbos with Sparta and Egypt.
