Summary/Abstract: In November 2015 – March 2016, a rescue archaeological excavation tookplace on nr. 47 A, Mircea cel Bătrân Street in Constanța. This terrain lies in front of the NE tower of the Great Gate of the defensive wall of Tomis from the Late Antiquity. Onthis occasion, a 16.50-meter long stretch of the limestone slabs pavement of the gate’saccessway was uncovered. The fossa (moat) of the city was also partially highlited at thepoint where it was crossed by a bridge. Out of the bridge’s structure, the sloping abutment on the SSE shore of the moat, made of large rectangular limestone blocks, was also uncovered. At a moment that we cannot point out for the time-being, given the absence of any datable material, at this crossing point, the fossa was filled up and overlapped by the pavement of the accessway.
