The goal of this article is the discussing the reasons of choosing the classes of catholic religion for students and the parents and the analysing the impact of project of the general programmme and the standards of education for this reasoning. It was the first time when the research on such scale studying the reasons of parents (250) of children attending elementary school for choosing religion lessons was executed. The programme for elementary school is grounded on liturgical calendar and is designed for developing skills of children in the sphere of this topic. The proposed content of teaching and developed skills correspond the expectations of the parents. The students of V–VII form were asked the same question about the reasons for choosing religion lessons. The choice of 31 per cent of respondents was grounded on the teacher’ competence. 30 per cent of respondents declared their wish to gain Christian world outlook. 12 per cent of students of this age attending religion lessons hope for the preparation for the Sacraments. 10 per cent would like to get knowledge about God. 6 per cent of respondents in this group pointed out the influence of their Christians parents and the traditions of the family. Only 5 per cent of students declared their own wish for attending these lessons.
