Summary/Abstract: The article presents the vision of the history of Uniate Church featured in Lithuanian Orthodox union by Mikolaj Kojalowicz (1828-1891). Kojalowicz considered the genesis of the Brzesc Litewski Union in a context of two oppositional ideologically distinct forces – Orthodox Church and Catholicism. Interestingly Kojalowicz recognized two opposing ideas in Catholicism – Latinisation and unionisation. By establishing them in the historical process he proved their tendency to be cyclical in nature. “Latinisation” appeared as a period of persecutions and actions aiming to directly subordinate the Orthodox Church to Catholicism by means of extortions and oppressions (e.g. Christianisation of Lithuania accomplished by Jagiello) while “unionization” was an era of calmness, concessions and peace negotiations which were to induce Orthodox hierarchs to expedite the union. In this field Kojalowicz’s historiography corresponds to the beliefs of Jozef Siemaszko (1798 - 1868) who was the originator of so-called “incorporation” of Uniate Church and Orthodox Church.
