Summary/Abstract: This article discusses selected characteristics of hate speech in Poland, with particular emphasis on the research concerning Polish educational institutions. After considering the positive and negative aspects of multiculturalism and clarifying the concept of hate speech, the authors present the results of their own research devoted to the manifestations of hate speech in Polish school and academic settings. The analysis is based on in-depth interviews conducted in the years 2015-2019. The paper concludes with reflections on the possibilities of counteracting hate speech and anti-discrimination during (foreign) language teaching. These activities require enormous support from all educational staff, especially teachers of Polish as a second language/foreign language and teachers of other foreign languages.
