Summary/Abstract: In summer of 1940, as a result of Treaty of Non-Aggression between Germany and the USSR concluded on August 23rd 1939, and of rapid German victories against Poland and France in the following year, the borders of Greater Romania were amputated in favour of the Soviet Union, Hungary and Bulgaria. After 20 years of policy for maintaining the Versailles system, the Romanian leadership could not prevent this catastrophe.
