Summary/Abstract: The use of a specific action based applied research is still not often done in the professional field of business and management. The authors explain how they performed a so-called “Grounded Action” research on “Gyroscopic Management” and why they believe this is of added value for the field of Management. The authors published before on this gyroscopic management approach. (See list of publications) It was the start of a specific (international) HRQM Bachelor study programme at Arnhem Business School in the Netherlands. During this study, participants are confronting a specific training and didactical approach with characteristics as selfreliance, self-study, Socratic dialogue, ethical and “gyroscopic” management. The approach focuses on the development of specific competencies as added to the existing competencies, taught for a Bachelor level (BBA). As researchers, lecturers and trainers, the authors used and researched this approach in a specific way during 4 years in many lectures, seminars, trainings and workshops at Universities in Europe. They explain how they have further developed and researched this approach in a specific action based research method. They present the background and setting of this research method and how this led to the explanatory and operational theory in which they describe the stages in Gyroscopic Management and why this is important for the future generation of managers.
