Summary/Abstract: The paper addresses the concept of media education in family environment from the perspective of parental mediation – the phenomenon that has been referred to by numerous research abroad and scarcely in Slovakia. The author suggests, drawing from multiple research studies that it is legitimate to use the term parental mediation despite the fact that in Slovakia it is also used in a different context. The paper offers theoretical bases for the concept of three mediation strategies in relation to mediation of TV viewing, and outlines difficulties related to conceptualisation of internet mediation strategies. The author draws from foreign research as well as his own research.
