Paul Ricoeur and the Meaning of Musical Discourse

Summary/Abstract: The article considers the problem of the meaning of a musical discourse from the perspective of hermeneutic phenomenology. The analysis is based on the collected essays by Paul Ricoeur, included in the book Language, Text, Interpretation. The author of the article aims at contextualization of such terms as discourse, event, meaning, distance, appropriation, interpretation, self-understanding, projection of ‘the world of work’ and the projection of the possibility of ‘being-in-the-world’ with reference to a musical work of art.
