Summary/Abstract: In Croatian historiography often prevailed an unfounded opinion that all newspapers in German language - with just being written in German - were in service of Germanization of the Croatian nation. The Croatian newspapers in German that were being published during the period of Croatian national awakening, had played, however, an important role in the promotion of the idea of a literary-cultural lllyrism, what is being illustrated in this article on the case of the magazine Croatia, which had been published from 1839 to 1842 by Franjo Župan.
