Summary/Abstract: The study aims to examine the impact of variables related to personal control and self-concept on the autonomous functioning of the individual. The sample consisted of 162 adult subjects. The following psychological methods were used in the study: Worthington Autonomy Scale (Anderson et al., 1994); Self-concept clarity scale (Campbell et al., 1996); Rosenberg's self-esteem scale (Rosenberg, 1965); Self-efficacy scale (SES); Mark Sherer, James E. Maddux, Blaise Mercandante, Steven Prentice Dunn, Beth Jacobs, Ronald W. Rogers (Corcoran & Fischer, 2000); Method for assessment of the localization of control, adapted by Angel Velichkov and Maria Radoslavova (Radoslavova and Velichkov, 2005). The results demonstrate the influence on the Autonomy of the Self- efficacy, the Self-Assessment and the Clarity of the Self-concept and have theoretical applicability, as far as they clarify the question of the personal determinants of the successful achievement of the status of autonomy. The conclusions of the empirical research have their practical applicability in psychological counseling for proper focusing of interventions aimed at the autonomy promotion of the consulted persons.
