Summary/Abstract: From the point of view of history, the Slavic fortified settlement in Mikulčice represents an extremely valuable area in which the beginnings of Czech and Slovak statehood. The area is protected as a national cultural monument (since 1962) and preparatory work is currently underway for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Together with the Kopčany area on the Slovak side of the border, it is currently the largest Slavic archaeological site in Central Europe. The intention of the following article is to present the results of an survey of the professional public on the state of preparations for the UNESCO World Heritage List.
