Summary/Abstract: Many specialized papers, regulations, actions of competent authorities and rightsholders talk about the importance of registration and compliance with geographical indications for various products that thus become more valuable, qualitative and more appreciated and sought by consumers. This paper aims to present the systems of protection of agricultural products, food, aromatized wines and spirits through geographical indications, designations of origin, names of traditional specialties guaranteed, but without going into the details of the characteristics that must be accomplished by the aforementioned products (e.g. quantities of various ingredients) or in the details of registration procedures. This paper will also present the relevant case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union on the legal provisions that have raised various issues in practice.
