Humor Lost in Translation

Summary/Abstract: The article introduces the concept of verbal comedy and analyzes the means to achieve a given phenomenon. The mechanism of creating humor in comedies was mentioned and the difficulties encountered by the translator when translating texts containing verbal jokes were mentioned. Examples of dialogue fragments found in the films of Juliusz Machulski, considered in Poland as the king of comedy, together with their translations into Russian, were used as empirical material. The article proves that in the case of translating verbal comedy, there is often a loss of emotion in viewers who do not know the original language.
