Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the typology of speech genres in contemporary political discourse. Thematerial for research is served by the utterances made by Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Theconcept of a speech genre was defined and its features were listed. Based on the research ofPolish and Russian politolinguists, the most important features of political texts were highlighted,such as: officiality, public, being part of the institutional, mass and persuasive communication.The author also presents the criteria available in the scientific literature for thedivision of speech genres used in political discourse (way of perception, main text functionand length) and on this basis, divides the Russian president’s statements into written andoral; ritual, indicative and agonal as well as into small, medium and large. The analysis leads to the conclusion that V.V. Putin’s discourse is dominated by oral, indicative and mediumgenres.
