Summary/Abstract: The territorial proximity with Greece, in the period during and after the end of the Civil War in Greece, motivated great number of Macedonian refugees that were embraced in SFR Yugoslavia and several Eastern European countries, at the beginning individually and then in an organized way to settle in the People’s Republic of Macedonia. The main subject of research of this paper are the memories of refugees and the histories of their families after leaving Greece, as well as the process of settling in during longer period of time in the People’s Republic of Macedonia. In the paper we used original research material acquired through conducting of focus groups in Skopje, Štip and Strumica and five individual family histories from the city of Bitola, tha latter as singular narratives of their returning into the ‘new’ society.
