Summary/Abstract: The article begins with a definition of the evidentiality as a semantic category and a short overwiew of linguistic expressions which can be seen as evidentiality markers in German. Then, with reference to SMIRNOVA (2006), a semantic view on the construction würde+infinitive is proposed, in which its meaning contains both modal and evidential (quotative as well as inferential) components, which, however, are not activated at the same time by the context of its use.
