Summary/Abstract: The article evokes the personality of Metropolitan Bartolomeu, as a servant of the Church, a monk, a writer and a man of culture. He paid special attention to the Holy Mass, showing special spiritual absorbtion during it. Metropolitan Bartolomeu Anania shed light on those around him, especially through the beauty of his spoken and written words, hard to match. The 18-year period of his pas- torate was inspired, given to the Church, the service of an old soldier who discovered a new youth. He always had time and eagerness for the Liturgy and the pulpit, for the spoken and written word. He became well known in the last years of his long life, often present in the media. Although he was pragmatic, with projects that had a direct correspondent in reality, Bartolomeu Anania also longed for God, looking for prayer and hessychia in his moments of respite. He was an atypical monk, not one blindly subject to the rules, but one concerned with the depths of his experiences. A man of inner joys, not of external manifestations. It was a joy to hear him speak, either at church services or in private discussions. The hierarchical service was the road with thorns and joys that the Archbishop and Metropolitan Bartolomeu Anania went through for the last 18 years of his life.
