Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the phenomenon of the “writers’ room” in the development of the contemporary serial one-hour drama in the USA. It focuses on the process of creation of TV series, their plot and storylines, the evolution or devolution of the characters, the relationships of the writers involved and the inspiration behind. The text explores the role of the “showrunner” as the leading writer and sole decision-maker of the “show” design, controlling the writers’ room. Unlike Hollywood, in the world of TV today, the writer occupies the prime position, receiving producer credits too and thus outranking the director.
