Thought Roots of Neoliberalism and its Characteristics

Summary/Abstract: This work examines neoliberalism from the standpoint of political theory and consequently analyzes basic characteristics of this stream of political thought. Neoliberalism is political ideology based on the concept of the market, which is deemed as a spontaneous and generally beneficial social order. Neoliberalism is further characterized by strict interpretation of individual rights (and property rights in particular) and by refusal of state intervention in the society. Also the idea of social justice is sharply criticized by neoliberal thinkers.
