Summary/Abstract: Code switching presupposes a change of languages that a bilingual speaker performs within an utterance of one and the same language interaction. In truth, this coding or code switching involves the collocation of statements or parts of statements, each of which conforms to the different morphosyntactic norms.Indeed, starting from the general postulate according to which the pupils and students of Dakar are plurilingual and that the code alternation has become a very recurrent phenomenon in the writing of SMS among the pupils and students of Dakar, it sounds obviously logical, to question a certain number of theoretical statements which summarize our research question. What type of code alternation do the pupils and students use? What are the rationales for the use of code switching? What are the functions of these code changes? To fulfil our objectives, we will first analyse the different forms of code alternations listed from a corpus. Then, we will seek to identify the reasons why they are used and finally, we will present some of their functions.
