Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to present the usefulness of parallel and background texts in the work of a translator of specialist texts. In the theoretical part, the issue of the concept of death and its types will be discussed. A short review of the definitions and characteristics of the parallel and background texts will also be made. The second part is devoted to the use of this type of texts in determining German equivalents of Polish terms related to human death.
