Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this research is to present and analyse the contribution of Fr. Dumitru Stăniloae to the theology of the icon. I have chosen to present his contribution in this direction because, until now, this theme has not been analysed. The main reason for this is that his main studies concerning the theology of the icon have not been translated until now in any major Western language. Therefore, it was almost impossible for the researchers even to identify the fact that Fr. Stăniloae had an important contribution in the field of the theology of the icon. Unfortunately, even in Romania, research in this area has not been undertaken. However, this does not impede serious research on the subject. The primary sources are enough to provide the material needed for research.
