Summary/Abstract: Born on June 11, 1910, descendant of a family of high intellectual level, Jacques-Yves Cousteau has revolutionized the diving technique, being, with the engineer Emile Gagnan, the inventor of the modern autonomous diver. In the period 1942–1944, Jacques-Yves Cousteau will have developed AquaLung, the first independent underwater breathing device, and in 1946 will patent the suit with constant volume, dedicated for long time underwater diving in low temperatures waters. Other significant inventions where the waterproof photo-camera, and the and the waterproof movie camera, developed with the aim to make the public aware of existing deep undersea worlds, unknown until that time. Through his entire activity, Jacques-Yves Cousteau remains the greatest oceanographer in the history of international science.
