Summary/Abstract: The author's research to date on the process of studying has shown the need to look for didactic solutions leading to the improvement of youth studies. The study presents one of the solutions that can lead to optimization of the process of studying, which is the realization of the subject "Effective Studying", and above all the creation of a portfolio by students based on their own observations. The article analyzes the main element created by students on the basis of the portfolio, which is the project of improving the process of studying. The main research problem was the following question: does the subject underway inspire students to reflect on the process of studying and to make decisions to improve the process. Participation in the realization of the optional subject and creating a portfolio was an opportunity for students to reflect, observe and analyze their own study process. The individual case study method and the document (portfolio) analysis technique used allowed to notice the students' progress in the learning process. The research shows that the respondents intend to undertake activities resulting from the constructivist, humanistic and critical-emancipatory paradigm, and to use a variety of methods and means that will allow them to improve the study process. Students realized that studying depends primarily on themselves; they noticed the need to shape learning skills and develop personality traits to optimize the process.
