Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the rewriting of the Labdacid myth by Wajdi Mouawad. The play Ni le soleil ni la mort ne peuvent se regarder en face is innovative in relation to the other rewritings of the same myth in the the 21st century French and French-language theater, which drew their inspiration from the tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. By comparison, Wajdi Mouawad’s dramatic text draws from other ancient sources that recount the beginning of the myth and the events that led to the well-known final Oedipus episode. The play consists of twenty-two narrative (sometimes with a poetic touch) episodes. In the rewriting process, new themes are introduced and latent themes are highlighted; among them, contemporary issues and types: the human condition, the foreigner, the refugee, approached through the narration of the mythical events.
