Summary/Abstract: The present study is interdisciplinary, it is located at the intersection of Linguistics and Communicology, in this case, with verbal communication and Semiotics. Our investigation aims at evaluating three theses about the place of the message in language/discourse formulated by three famous European specialists in Linguistics, Semiology (Semiotics): Roland Barthes, Tzvetan Todorov and Julia Kristeva. The method used is a complex one that combines the meta-analytical approach with the history of concepts and the comparative procedure. The conclusion is that all the three scholars are aware that the purpose of language/discourse/speech is communication and that the core of communication is the linguistic message. The message is retained only in linguistic terms: the message is conceived as a form of discourse by Roland Barthes, as meaning-thinking by Tzvetan Todorov, and as a “significant practice” by Julia Kristeva.
