Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on Latvian parliamentary elections held in 2006 and its impact on the consolidation of the party system. Some results of these elections are exceptional. For the very first time since 1993 the ruling party won the elections and the Prime Minister Kalviltis' govemment could continue in the office. No new political party was established as an alternative to the existing political representation before the elections. The election turnout was the lowest since 1993. However, none of these new features changed anything in Latvian party system. Current political stability is temporary. The number of political parties in parliament is still high which is caused mostly by the possibility to establish party coalitions. Political parties are not able to attract voters with original and comprehensible programmes. The party system is still far to be consolidated and we cannot suppose such consolidation in the near future.
