Summary/Abstract: Hannah Arendt is one of the most famous and original political thinkers of the 20th century. ln the Czech Republic she is predominantly known as the author of The Origins of Totalitarianism. This paper seeks to overcome this view by exposing a wider structure of her political thoughts in which totalitarianism is but one particular aspect. Arendťs political thoughts are connected to the ideal of action as an inherent political activity. The ideal of action penetrates all political thought of Arendt and can be divided into three circles. The first one is a definition of action and information about its decline. The second one sketches the possibility of its rebuilding by the use of a revolution and a system of councils. The third one warns against a resignation on the action. lt is within the frame of all those circles that Arendt emphasizes the relation between the action and the freedom and marks the action as the only source of political power.
