Summary/Abstract: The study refers to the beginnings of the European regional cooperation in the field of security and, while focusing on the UN Charter, a fundamental international document, deals with the creation of the Western Union, the Treaty of Washington of 1949, the European Coal and Steel Community, the European Atomic Energy Community, the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Independent European Programme Group and Eurogroup. Nicolae Titulescu, an illustrious Romanian diplomat with particular merits in the activity of the Society of Nations, foresaw the achievement of present-day European security architecture, based on cooperation among States. The author points out those coordinates of the present-day European formula that have been defined as far back as the beginnings of the achievement of the European architecture.
