Summary/Abstract: After WW I when the dream of Greater Romania came true, the Romanian university education in Cluj laid its foundations. Research institutes were established and brought an outstanding contribution in their field. The Institute of History from Cluj-Napoca was one of the representative ones. It was founded on 1 February 1920 as the Institute of Romanians' History and a year later the name was changed into the Institute of National History, a name it kept until 1940. Well-known historians who worked there opened new fields and programmes for research. Today the institute bears the name of „George Bariţiu”, a well-known historian and publicist. The book stock of the Institute Library was a guide mark of the historians' studies and professional interests as well as the sources they used in their works. Our paper gives a short presentation of the German books they consulted to study the history, culture and civilisation of the German people, which they found in the Library in the inter-war period.
